What Causes Joint Pain and When to Worry

Joint pain is a common problem that can affect people of all ages and may arise due to a variety of reasons. The most frequent causes include wear and tear of joints with age (osteoarthritis), inflammation of joints due to autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, injuries or sprains, and overuse from physical activity or repetitive movements. Other possible causes include infections, gout (uric acid buildup), vitamin deficiencies, or even obesity, which puts extra pressure on the joints. In many cases, mild joint pain improves with rest, warm compresses, gentle exercise, and lifestyle changes. However, it is important to seek medical attention if the pain is severe, persistent, or associated with swelling, redness, stiffness (especially in the morning), fever, or difficulty in movement. Early diagnosis helps identify the underlying cause and prevents long-term joint damage, ensuring better mobility and quality of life.
